Crochet Jacket

Vof vof dear friends! It’s me Nero here and today I show you how our “granny square jacket” is going on. Hope you are well and hope you love colours!

crochet jacket

Nero

These are the sleeves. I think they look like a castle in Disney land!

sleeves for crochet jacket

These are the front pieces. I’m not sure yet how the collar will be but something simple.

crochet cardigan

And this is the back piece.

Nero

I had to think a lot how to make the sleeves. Finally I planned the colours so that they follow the colour theme on each side … I hope so. Those little ‘tree’ triangles will be under the arms. That was a hard job to decide how to make the sleeve shape. I didn’t want trumpet sleeves! I hope this will work out well.

granny squares

This has been a slow project and I’m really happy to see that it will be finished soon!

crochet granny squares

Mornings are the best! It’s still a little bit cool and the light is beautiful! Have to smell who has passed my road.

Nero

Hanna

If you like to read the earlier post and how I connect the squares, it’s HERE.

I help with Hanna as much as we can because Teje is mostly reading on sofa, her back is in pain and she can’t sit at the sewing machine. Oh boy we miss sewing and patchwork!

Nero

Anyway it’s really hot and we don’t have energy to do anything. In the afternoons we play a little bit and look the traffic on the road, but mostly just try to find a cool place to lie. Today seems to be very nice wind, even some clouds,so I hope the day won’t be terrible hot.

Thank you friends for stopping by!

Furry hugs from

Nelli’s Post: sewing projects

Miauu, miauu! It’s me Nelli here and I’m very happy to see you! After our guest puppies left, I have been again more in the sewing room. This is not the best photo of me but the only one now to show you that I really have been working …

Nelli

As you see I had put earlier lots of little tringles  on my design wall, some ‘lines’ with narrow bias stripes and  some other inspiration blocks. In the weekend I thought to relax and to focus to this ‘Dream Catcher’ quilt project.

dream catcher

First I sew the petals to create the center circle (which is not going to be necessarily in the center). I thought that if one day I need to empty my design wall, it’s better to have at least this circle sewn up. Perhaps you don’t need to look too close, but if you do, you see that I had to improvise. I was so happy that sewing the curves went really smoothly and I was expecting some issue at the end … and there it was. But I don’t mind at all! This is very improvised, creative, free style project so any ‘mis takes’ will be concidered ‘art-is takes’! After making this circle I welcome any curve-prject with no fear!

flying geese

Making these small flying geese curve lines was really fun! Totally free style, even I took care how to place the colours. I could make these all the time, but that wouldn’t look interesting, so I had to start to make something else, too.

improvised patchwork

It was time to for more colour! If you look my design illustration for this quilt, there are also very colourful parts. Okey, don’t think exactly this drawing because here the colours are very pale. Miouw, I should paint this again with COLOURS!

dream catcher

I love colours, you know! Want to see the cat I made?! One day when I don’t have anything to do, I shall make this quilt! This kitty is hiding in the grass waiting to catch something …

blue eye cat

By the way I went to see my vet, Stavros,  yesterday and he said I’m very well. I’m 14 years now and feel great! I had a small thing with one too long nail … ah why we girls like long nails? Be careful, the nail can grow to your finger! Yiaks!

img_8263

So the weekend went and it was time to work and not just play with scraps. I made test block with a house. Soon I shall make a quilt where I need houses and the family in this house has a lovely dog, Collie.

house block

Before the quilt with houses, I am making (just almost finished the top) a baby girl quilt. You know how much I like pink!

economy block

You can understand that I didn’t sleep well with the green blanket, blaah! I like the blue, star blanket in my sewing room bed but here I need pink blanket!

Nelli cat

As I said I focused to ‘Dream Catcher’ in Saturday evening … and ended up with two chickens! That’s the way it happens with sewists! When I saw the chickens that Adrianne @ ‘On the Windy Side’ had made, I just had to get one chicken! Click HERE to read Adrianne’s post and get her free chicken template! See in Instagram her chicken flock growing up! You will enjoy seeing all her photos – so much inspiration! and cats!

chicken block

Adrianne’s fabrics are so perfect for her chickens and I felt that I can’t find anything (!) from my stash. Then I didn’t find anything else than this blue for the background and I feel it’s too strong colour … at least for the orange chicken.

chicken raw edge applique

I made yellow chicken with my favourite fabric which is like lime yellow in real. Then I couldn’t stop making some eggs with favourite scraps … and then I stucked … thought to make this pillow but … there is a big But and I think I shall separate these two ladies … they Kot Kot  too much and I can’t focus to my quilting work!

Hanna and Nelli

After having a nap with Hanna, I shall baste the baby quilt and start the fun part,  quilting by paw! with pink Perle no 8 cotton!

Thank you so much for reading my post! I feel much happier after chatting with you! Thank you also for your lovely comments and sweet words about my ‘selfie’ in Instagram!

Colourful Days

Hello Dear Friends! My days have been very colourful with 4 puppies around, one cat (hiding) and colourful quilt plans! Today is my birthday and I think great way to celebrate is to enjoy colours!

Kona color panel

When you are surrouded by four puppies, it’s better to do something you don’t need to concentrate too much and what doesn’t need too much space. When puppies were sleeping a while today, I made some stitches to this Kona color panel. By the way, I have learnt at school to say ‘colour’ but I’m not sure should I use ‘color’? What you think: does it matter what word I use when writing in internet?

fabrics

My main subject today is the new mosaic challenge by Rachel at ‘Stitched in Color’.  I love her idea and her posts are beautifully written and filled with most colourful, inspiring photos! This time the theme is Cathedral Windows – how exciting! Fabric shop is wonderful The Loopy Ewe! They have fantastic collection of fabrics and well organized shop. It was easy to search the fabrics. They have also good way to find fabrics by colour (by lots of shades of colours).

You may think that it was easy to make these mosaics because I picked many fabrics from Kaffe Fassett. I can say that this time I felt quite easy to find what I want but still it took hours to decide. I wanted to choose more ‘un common’ fabrics but with the theme Cathedral Windows, Kaffe’s colours are perfect (for my opinion) and that’s why I ended up picking many of them.

I wish we could make mosaic with 12 fabrics because I have always 2-3 that I just don’t want to leave out. Rachel, what about bigger mosaic?! or would it be then too easy?

In my 1. mosaic the blue prints are moda – Shibori and the others are Kaffe Fassett.

In my 2. mosaic the blue prints are moda -Shibori, turquoise circles are Kaffe Fassett, yellow circles are ‘Summer Song from Riley Blake and the rest of three are ‘Slow & Steady by Tula Pink.

stained-glass-windows-2-the-loopy-ewe

One evening I started to add colour to one of my ’30 Days of Quilt Design’ (also challenge by Rachel). In my illustration the curved ‘leaves’ create interesting repeating pattern. It doesn’t show here yet but you will see it when I finish this.

water colours to quilt design

I can imagine so well those gorgeus Cathedral Windows colours for this design … bright colours for curves and the Shibori blues for filling. Water colours are perfect for this kind of relaxing colouring. Other wise I feel they are quite difficult even so so beautiful!

dogs

Can you guess how hectic our days are with four big dogs and one of them, Paris is 7 months! Paris is gorgeus and sweet Labrador girl! She has grown up a lot (body and mind) and she learns easily many things. Walking with her is every day easier. But, wow, does she has energy and strength! London, sweet Golden Retriewer has been our friend for several years and she is very much like Hanna, calm and easy. Had to stop my lunch to pick camera …dogs

As it’s my Birthday, I continue to have fun (=play with puppies) and as it’s Saturday, I shall continue to stitch the Kona panel. Lucy from ‘Charm about You’ is hosting in IG ‘Saturday Night Craft Along’ and I try to join her every Saturday.

water colours

Thank you for joining my Colourful Birthday! What colours you have in you days this time? What is your favourite colour? My favourite colour changes often but today it’s for sure Pink!

Honey Pot Bee and potholders

Hi dear friends!

happy blocks

I had to take out happy blocks because the ‘potholder attitude’ started to take over. I wanted to make several potholders but nothing worked well. And what was wrong … it was the potholder attitude: it’s just a potholder which is going to get dirty and thrown away. I should be able to think that hey! it’s only fabric! Only?! Who says only?! Every scrap is unique and won’t come back ever again! (remember I don’t have acces to quilt shops here).

It was time to pick some cute scraps and make the Wild Card block for Molli Sparkles’ “The Honey Pot Bee”! Trees are made with the tutorial by ‘Diary of a Quilter’.

tree blocks

So fun to make these trees that as a tree lover, ther will surely bee many more! In fact first I made red/beige trees having potholders in my mind.

img_7849

Then I made few houses.

house block

Next try was to make flower pot. I draw the templates from Helen Philipp’s book: ‘Modern Vintage Gifts’. Read Helen’s lovely Christmas post!

flower pot template

I loke the flower but not the colours. I was thinking to make scrappy flower with happy colours – how I ended up with this?! Heart is also from Helen’s book.

potholder

This surely shows me what my main goal for the year 2017 should be: to find myself and my happy colours again!

Like these!

hexagons

And these! Time to continue Winding Ways with Kaffe Fassett; should be enough happy colours!

winding ways

And after that I shall cnontinue these Grand Canal diamonds!

diamonds quuilt blocks

I have a feeling that year 2017 will be happier!

Thank you for stopping by! Are you joining ‘The Honey Pot Bee’? What about your colours – where your year happy or your wait next one to be happier year?

Weekend Sewings with new Fabrics!

Hello friends! How are you? Enjoying any fun sewings in the weekend? I was first doing some happy cleaning and then started to sew. Happy cleaning – what’s that you ask? That’s the cleaning when you plan in your mind new quilt project and you know that after cleaning you can concentrate totally to sewing and you don’t need to think that you should be cleaning and not playing with fabrics!

Kona colours

Hey what’s this?! That was my thought when I first saw this! This is a panel with lots of Kona colours! I found this from ‘Fat Quarter Shop’. I love Kona solidis like everyone but can’t order them often, so I thought this is just perfect for me!

Grand Canal Jelly Roll

This story began from ‘Scraptastic Tuesday’, monthly linky party hosted by Leanne and Nicky. I join this party every time and in September I was lucky to win gift card for ‘Fat Quarter Shop’! Thank you so much Leanne, Nicky and FQS! My gift card covers the shipping so it’s not easy to decide what to purchase (when I just can’t say that ‘I don’t have any fabric to sew’)!

It took me weeks to make up my mind. First I decided to go for a Jelly Roll because I have never tried those. My wishlist was growing and then shorting and so on … every day I decided something else (something wise to sew for orders, something colourful, something less colourful) … but at the end I decided to go with my instinct. Usually that’s the best way not to regret later.

Jelly roll

Finally my order was: ‘Grand Canal’ by Kate Spain for Moda Fabrics, Kona painted color chart quilt panel and the orange (on the back ground) ‘Modern Country’ by Mary Elizabeth for Windham Fabrics. I’m love them all! The purple/blue fabric is: andover created by Quilted Koala for Andover Fabrics (2014 Patt 7634), bought from my trip to Finland (Eurokangas). Strongly in my mind was also: ‘Flow’ by Zen Chic.

zipper pouch

I’m making pouches for Christmas and for my etsy shop. But saturday evening I like to join friends and sew something else. Lucy from ‘Charm about You‘ is hosting every saturday #saturdaynightcraftalong in Instagram and that’s fun! Few days ago I realized to my horror that I didn’t have anything to hand quilt! I couldn’t watch tv because didn’t have anything to do! I crapped my epp diamonds but now I’m not so excited about them.

my sewing room

So it was good time to start with this new Kona panel. Somehow my sewing table is getting smaller and smaller and I had to move to the living room. I basted the panel and took out my Perle 8 cotton threads.

saturdaynightcraftalong

There was an old movie in tv: about family where mother has to go to work to other city and father stays at home with two daughters. He’s all the time super energy, not ‘very well’ and mostly collects everything and creates things but he cooks and takes care of the girls and they have lots of fun together. One evening the small girl asks if dad has made her the dress she needs. Of course he had forgot but now he asks what dress that should be … ‘Flamenco dress’! and he gathers lots of materials and sews all night …

old movie

He creates the best ever flamenco dress (daughter’s words) based to old jeans and filled with lots of fantasy materials! I was not quick enough to shoot the finished dress. He reaminded me that I should be more creative. But I started to quilt straight lines on my fabric …

img_7263

On the selvage it says that this panel is not for exact colours. So if you need to know exactly what Kona solid to order, it’s better to have their colour card.

I can’t wait to start with the ‘Grand Canal’ Jelly Roll! They are 2,5 ” stripes and most likely I shall make some kind of diamonds. But there are countless number fantastic patterns to make with stripes, so I may change my mind. If you have a good pattern in your mind, please share in the comments.

Jelly Roll

Now it’s time to take Nero and Hanna for a walk and a little puppy is waiting for me …

patchwork puppy

By the way, next tuesday is already again ‘Scraptastic Tuesday’! How it happens that one month feels like one week!

I shall join my favourite linky parties and you can find all the buttons on my sidelist. You can click the buttons and visit the blogs any time you like, not only for the linky parties but to see their other posts!

Postcards from Finland 1

Hi Dear Friends! Here I am, in my homeland. I shall show you snap shots from my days and ways. Would be lovely to live in a lavender blue house …

Finland

Good morning! I start my day with crackers and was happy to find this purple pack. Koulu = school and theses cracker are traditional …

breakfast

I enjoy listening my ‘own’ language and watching tv. In the morning tv was a part: ‘morning book’ with a great patchwork background! Interesting book review too!

img_6920

I went to renew my passport and took the road through the area I used to live before I moved to Greece.

This ski jump place used to look so high but I guess it’s not anymore.

Finland

This is a horse race arena. From here I have more memories with dogs because dog shows take place here. Our family used to have always dogs and we were often in dogs shows. When I was in the dog show here in my home town with my first own dog … the miracle happened … my dog was 4th of all the show! That was unforgetable experience for a young girl!

horses

Would have been fun to visit this ‘Our country side’ festival but it has been in August. Still happy to see this fun sign!

img_6894

I lived in this house … how much those trees has grown! … in 23 years.

img_6898

I’m so happy that there is still gorgeus colours in nature! This time it could be already colder and even perhaps first snow (as they had in north but not yet in south). It’s about + 4-7 C, just perfect for me after really hot summer in Greece.

Finland

This beautiful tree is on the side of the Animal Hospital …

Finland

Quick photo when waiting in traffic lights. Have to keep my camera always ready next to me!

Finland

And then I went to buy the yarn that I had already picked from Novita’s website. I had decided to buy that light colour for a shawl to knit when watching tv in the evenings …but do you think I could have left the shop without  Colours?! There are still few more colours and I shall start with these and see then if I like to mix more of them. It’s so soft and beautiful yarn!

finnish yarn

Visit nerospost in Instagram to see what goodies I shopped with the yarn!

post office

Went to the post office … ‘Neron Posti’ …

Thank you for joining my holidays in Finland and thank you for you lovely wishes! See you soon!

Reinbow Hexagons

Hi Dear Friends! I have really delicious photos today!

hexagons

When I finally reached this point I couldn’t stop taking photos! I started this project in June and can’t remember now exactly how and why. Perhaps just needed something small to enjoy fabric and sewing.

reinbow hexagons

First I didn’t have any plan but later there has been too many ideas. I shall stick to one idea even I feel that this is shouting: I want to be a table runner! But I don’t have now time or patient to make lots of hexies more to fix the edges. I want to finish this soon! One other idea is very tempting but also that I shall save for an other time.

paper piecing

My way to baste hexies is with thread and through the papers. My way to sew hexies is as you see in the photo and I use one colour through all the project (usually white or beige). I don’t mind that the stitches are visible. This is handmade and that can be seen. I cut the fabric squares (in this case 2.5″ x 2.5″). If you make a quilt, it’s better to cut hexagon shapes so you don’t have too much extra fabric. When making something else we don’t mind about that.

paper pieced hexagons

img_6738

I thought that I could have finished this whole thing in these days but I have had many friends with me and mostly just played with them.

quilting with puppy

When my friend, London was resting I picked the basting threads and papers. They come out so easily and quickly with a help of a needle. I have super fun hexagon templates from Annett! Thank you again my friend!

paper piecing

Then this rainbow piece got good press. And few more photos …

reinbow hexagons

… I spent long time to find the matching colours from my stash … other wise this would become a table runner! But I want to connect the ends.

hexagon project

My way to baste quilt top is with curved safety pins. So, nyyh nyyh, now the gorgeus scrappy look is hidden for ever … should I make one time small, scrappy wall quilt so that the back side would be the front side?! Yes! I think so!

fantastic hexagons

Did I show you this? I did? Okey shall we continue then and lets see how I quilted this.

Iiiik! I cut it!

paper pieced hexagons

Don’t worry, not by mistake! This was planned but wow, you need nerves to do that! In fact I think I should have cut more but that brave I wasn’t. This is my first time do this, so I started with little and I see later if I need to cut more. I felt so sorry to cut those edges!

Quilting is by hand with Perle cotton no 8, diagonal lines which create lovely diamonds. Unfortunately you can’t see that well in photo. Have to wait until this ‘thing’ is finished and washed.

These cuties are too small to save, even for me.

img_6782

Now the next step is to connect the ends … i can do this, i can do this, i can do this, i can do this …

img_6784

I’m surprised that it’s already ‘Scraptastic Tuesday’ which happens every second Tuesday of a month (I feel it’s almost every week?!) I want to send super super Thanks to Leanne at ‘She can Quilt’ and Nicky at ‘Mrs Sew and Sow’ for hosting this party! Also I want to thank them and their sponsors because last time I won! More about that later.

I’m joining also my favourite weekly linky parties and you can find all their buttons on my sidelist!

sleeping puppies

Now all our puppies, Nero, Hanna and our special guest Paris, are sleeping. Nice hmm? but do they sleep at night if they rest now? I think I shall use the opportunity and stitch the ends and if they are not sleepy at night, lets play then!

paper piecing hexagons

This was the beginning of this story. If you like to read more, click HERE.

Thank you for joining my scrappy adventure! You know I love colours and small scraps! Do you? Do you love or hate hand sewing? If you had asked from me 10 years ago, my answer would be totally different than today!

Have a great week and seen you soon! And soon postcards from Finland!
