Hanna’s Post: Butterflies and Lavender

Vof vof, friends! It’s me Hanna here, surrounded by lavender and butterflies!

Hanna puppy

Spring turns to summer here in Crete and there are lots of flowers around. When I come home from my walk, I have often flowers and leaves in my fur. In my garden there is a big lavender bush and it’s full of tiny purple flowers. When me and Nero walk near by this bush we smell really nice!

There are busy bees collecting honey and beautiful butterflies flying around.

My new quilt projcet has butterflies and I have already made few to test how the free piecing would work. You can see more about that HERE.

There are really so many kind of butterflies! That’s fun and gives me a change to make creative butterflies with different techniqs. You may know that I love paper piecing! But, the Big But is that it takes a lot of time and I think it’s better for small blocks. But, I made yesterday one purple butterfly and I love it! It took time but I’m hooked! I think I shall make few of these small butterflies but I couldn’t make many because this quilt is going to be the biggest I have ever made.

Patter is from Lillyella and I’m sure you have seen many of these beautiful butterflies flying around in blogs and instagram. I made small change on the body

Diamond blocks are made with Kate Spain‘s ‘Grand Canal’. I think my favourite is this deep purple! It brings water to my mouth! Now I’m waiting to receive bundle of ‘Early Bird’ also by Kate Spain, to continue this project. I think these small butterflies with solids add something special to this quilt.

lavender

I picked lots of lavenders to make later lavender pouches. There is still much more to cut but I leave them for the bees for a while.

dear dog Hanna

Hmmm, what I was thinking? Making plans is one of my favourite hobbies. Often it’s difficult to concentrate and start to make something. But when I start then it’s difficult to stop. I was thinking to clean in the garden, you know those fallen leaves and flowers, but I think I prefer to make new butterfly. What you think about juicy yellow-green butterfly? … pink … turquoise …

I shall join my favourite linky parties with my friends! All the buttons are on my sidelist, so click and see what everyone has been doing!

Kisses from HANNA

Selvage Pouches

Hi Dear Friends! These selvage pouches didn’t appear here yet even I made them a while ago. After making cases for sunglasses and phones, I continued with {selvage & strips} inspiration.

Both pouches have selvages and strips on both sides. Same colour palet continues on the other side.

Snow, Stash and Bee Blocks

Vof vof friends! Nero here and I’m very happy to see you! I have today many things to show but I just have to start with the coolest thing …

Snow on Nero's head

For you this may be normal stuff but I have never before had snow flake on my head! Look what happens in my garden!

snow in crete

You can imagine that the weather is really cold and it has been raining every day. I went for a short walk and tried to catch the snow flakes – that was fun! But then it turned to water again and the girls had just a small sniff in the garden but were not quick enough for a walk on snow. Rain made the snow disappear soon. Hb went to our village and there it was all white! I hope we can play with the snow later!

Hanna and snow

As it’s Sunday it’s good time to show the latest add to our stash. Santa and dear friends sent to us many goodies!

presents

My dear “american cousin” Sonja sent to me Quilting & Patchwork Coloring book wrapped in this house fabric! I’m excited because I haven’t tried the ‘coloring’ yet! She sent something else too what I’ll show you an other time. Thank you Sonja!

Little suitcase is from my dear Finnish friend Leena! It’s filled with chocolate! We have a nice story with these suitcases. I happened to find one red from one of my trips to Finland. Leena saw that in my blog and got the same! Last year when we met, she gave me little brown suitcase and now sent this for the Christmas! We have a super fun collection! They are designs of  ‘Maileg’. Leena sent also one other most cute thing and that you will also see an other time. Thank you Leena!

presents

Mia, my dear Finnish friend, sent to me dog fabric! How she knew?! She knows and adds always Finnish candies! Hopea toffee is a memory from my youth and I love the strong taste candies! Always packed with cutest details … Thank you Mia! Have a look also Mia’s shop which is filled with most beautiful things!

img_8102

My dear Finnish friend, quilter who lives also in Greece, Anneli, sent to me happy fabrics! There are charm squares, birdies and berries – all my favourites! Thank you Anneli!

fabrics

You may remember that I’m very much affraid of the fireworks. In the Nea Year’s Eve we sat all together until late night and sew this little dog by hand. Pattern is by Kumiko Fujita. It was nice to make but more difficult than paper piecing.

dog block

I haven’t been sewing last days because …

Hanna and Paris

… if I’m in the sewing room, there are two friends waiting for me with ‘crying faces’. ‘Paris’ can’t come to the sewing room because it’s Nelli’s safe-place; Nelli has barely used to me and Hanna but is terrified about other dogs. So the only thing I did, was to finish quickly the star block I had started.

star block

The beginning wasn’t quick because I needed one evening to choose the fabrics! I would have chosen a little bit different if there just were possibilities in my stash. From the colour ‘points’ I like mostly the turquoise and did my best to make similar points with other colours. I had yellow bicycles but I guess I have used the last scrap because couldn’t find any. This is the second block of the new bee …

Molli Sparkles is hosting ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ and I’m so excited to join that! First blocks are out and I love them!

First block is strawberry, which I have done already once for my ‘Strawberry Cake’ wall quilt.

strawberry wall quilt

You may know that when ever you think something is easy piecy, it is not. I had ready cut little squares and the wall quilt front of me and thought this will go so easily. I guess I didn’t see clearly enough without my glasses and ended up with very looooong strawberry …

img_8056

‘Let every strawberry grow and be unique’. Perhaps I shall make one more,  a round one.

my strawberry

I shall use low volumes for these bee blocks.

quilt blocks

There will be also some ‘wild cards’ in this bee, like these trees. Can’t wait to see what other blocks we shall make!

So I guess it’s time to get back to puppies. They have been so good all together! At the moment 3 girls are snoring and me, Nero I’m sleeping on my feathur duvet. Now you think how I write and sleep …  I have of course secretary do do the writing! Not the easiest job to take photo of 4 dogs together. We are all looking for the goodies next to the photographer!

Thank you so much for visiting and reading my little stories! Thank you also again for the sweet comments you write!

I’m linking at Sunday Stash, Oh Scrap.

Furry hugs from NERO!

Nero’s Post: Cats and Dogs

Vof vof! Hi friends, how are you? I’m fine and happy to see you!

Nero

We had some rainy days but now it’s gorgeus sunny weather!

Nero the Shephard

I have had a little bit sniff sniff these last days, catched a cold, but now I take medicin and feel already better. I’m 12 so I need to take good care. I try to sleep in a warm bed but often it’s too warm for me. Then again the marmory floor  is too cold. Nelli sleeps in the corner, who could believe years ago that one day we sleep in same bed!

We have a friend, Paris, staying with us some days. Unfortunately I don’t have anymore energy to play with kids. She sleeps sometimes … a little bit …

Hanna shows some flowers from the garden. Jasmin is her favourite!

Sunday Stash and Stuff

Hello dear friends! Welcome to see my ‘this and that’ Sunday stash and stuff! Last Sunday I was happily surprised that I had again fabrics to share … and believe me or not, I have new fabric again! But first I show you my helper.

knitting moose

This is busy busy season and I know you would like to have extra hands. I’m so happy that Miss Moose started to knit (with Hanna’s help) and now I can focus on  my sewing projects.

sewing table

This mess is almost too much for me. Where I cut the fabric? I wish that with a push of button I could get an extra (empty) table! Last night I joined again Lucy at #saturdaynightcraftalong .…  sorry, I went to pick the link and forgot myself in IG to see what new stuff there was from last night! I really enjoy this craft along and it helps me to ‘work’ on saturday evenings … even I wonder if I can call this work.

Dear friend surprised me last week! I feel so lucky and happy to have friends all around the world! You know how amazing this blogland is and how special friendships we can make even we haven’t met in life! With Doreen from ‘Treadlemusic’, we have been friends for a long time and I know if we ever met, we would laugh our selves to sick! When Doreen went for a trip (perhaps with her awesome bike!) and saw this fabric she thought me and the sea/beach photos I show often. Thank you Doreen for this gift and for making me laugh!

sea fabric

I guess we all enjoy seeing photos and life in different places. It’s like making a short trip and also it’s really nice to have an idea where and how our friends live and spend their time (that we know if they are quilters!). So here you go … our lunch one day last week …

shrimps in greek way

I’m lucky in many ways, one is that hb is fantastic cook and likes to cook! I’m not a kitchen person at all. Here we enjoy huge shrimps in delicious tomatoe sauce in Greek way by my hb! And glass of local wine … good for health! Today we went for a Sunday lunch to the local taverna/grill ‘Mitsos’ in our village. That’s our favourite place.

After siesta and coffee we continue often until late evening (sometimes may wake up at night and do a little bit and then continue sleeping). Sea glass vases and candle glasses from our ‘Trikimia” sea glass studio.

sea glass vase by trikimia

Last year I made lots of fabric hearts from Helen’s book ‘Modern Vintage Gifts’. I love them and have them again on the drift wood tree. As I make now some little fabric items, today I shall make also hearts.

fabric hearts

I try to be busy these days because soon we shall have a visitor who keeps me playing all day long!

bracelets and pendants

Can you guess who will come? Yes, Paris the puppy! Her sleeping toy is waiting for her!

‘How it is to be an animal?’ I wish I knew (or as they say be careful what you wish). But still life with puppies would be much more enjoyable and easier if we could understand them better. We should understand also that often they can’t understand us. My treasure books by ‘Susan Branch‘, hand written books from a special friend! You just need to see Susan’s site!

books

There is my traditional Finnish straw goat, Christmas decoration. By the way, Santa Claus in Finnish is Christmas Goat?! Should search from where that comes!

christmas goat

This year I have made winter wonderland on the big window in the dining area. Miss Moose is sitting there on a big log and of course knitting. More you will see soon.

It’s difficult to find the Christmas feeling when most of the days outside are like this!

greek garden

After living in Greece over 20 years, I have made my own little Christmas traditions but I can’t find or create the magical Christmas atmosphere there is in Finland or any other snowy, cold place. So if you have that, enjoy even you miss hot sunshine!

Postcards from Finland 3

Hi dear friends! Here are the goodies I got from Leena at ‘Tilkkutie’! Every fabric is my favourite!

fabrics

Happens that with Leena we both have small red suitecase and when Leena saw these brown, she thought that we have to have these and I’m so happy for this! I use my little red suitcase all the time for hand sewing things. It lives in my hexy-box and often I need to take it from there. Now I can have this one for other hand sewing projects.

img_7026

Leena is my first quilt friend who I have met! Imagine my excitment to visit her sewing room! I love her owl pouches and her notebook with tiny paper pieced stars is amazing!

Last year I was here in September and the weather was really good, warm and beautiful and the nature was still all green. This time I was also lucky because last week there was beautiful autumn colours around and lots of trees still had leaves.

Paris, our guest puppy is here!

Hi Dear Friends! Paris is here again! Wow, how she has grown in one month and she is so beautiful!

labrador puppy

She is really big with long legs … and can reach every where!

dogs

Nero and Hanna were really happy to meet Paris again … but with Alice from the nextdoor they share something special. Alice was waiting for her every day the last month that Paris was away.

puppies

When they meet, Paris is licking her face all over (and ours too)! She does that also to Nero but Nero is worried that she will touch his ears and doesn’t let her do that much.

dogs playing

I try to take lots of photos hoping to catch them in few. They are so busy when playing and especially Paris flies around the garden and house … in and out and all around again …

puppies playing

There can be short moments that Paris is thinking what to do next …

labrador

… but usually she is prepared with a long ‘to do’ list. She is very creative! Here she is making special fiber for crocheting …

labrador puppy

She always cleans up her mess after finishing her projects.

dogs

In fact she loves to fix and clean all the house … have to remember not to expect too much because she is still very young! But I have to say that she’s really quick … I just washed my teeth …

img_6651

Hanna is often a little bit worried what Paris might have in her mind …

img_6718

But when we play with ball, Hanna is the first one to join the fun … (I guess then she knows that she is not the target) …

dogs

Nero’s main hobby is ball game and he is phenomenal!

img_6674

We did start to organize the garden but there are always so many things to do. Fortunately we have helper …

img_6682

Paris was looking carefully how hb took lots of baby Aloes that were around the big one. Paris went quickly and started to digg holes where he can plant them … in many places in the garden. I guess it’s better we do the planting next week when Paris is not helping. Sorry Paris and thank you dear so much for helping us!

img_6686

I don’t think we use these holes, Paris, because I know this is your special place. You can fix this as you like. She loves mostly this corner because Alice is also here. In fact she went to play with her (on her own)! and we add few more woods on the fence.

Paris the labrador puppy

Paris is a sweet and gorgeus little girl! She makes us laugh a lot and gives us great exercise! She sleeps with me (I don’t think she moves much all night because she doesn’t wake me up) … so when she wakes up early in the morning, she has filled her batteries and is ready for new adventures!

Lots of photos, but I don’t think I have time to post more before she leaves. Next Tuesday is again! ‘Scraptastic Tuesday’ and then I shall show you my hexagon project. Oh it has so delicious colours!

labrador puppy

It’s very quiet here … are they all sleeping or …

Thank you for visiting and reading my puppy stories! Thank you also for your lovely comments! … Paris woke up … no, just changed bed …
