Scraptastic Blocks

Hi dear friends! Is it again time for Scraptastic Tuesday, relly? Yes it is, so lets see some scrappynes!

scrappy blocks by teje

Now when the Puppy and Girl quilt top is down from this extra design wall I could put there ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ blocks and few others.

starry sky block

Starry sky block is the latest I made just yesterday evening. It’s one of my very favourites even first I wasn’t sure what fabrics/colours I should pick. I’m very happy with the low volume squares but also with the white. This block is by ‘A Persevering Mom’, like is also the bowl of ice cream. That’s for sure my other very favourite!

ice cream bowl

The bowl with ice cream is the 1. block for the ‘Sweet Treats QAL’ by ‘A Persevering Mom’. There are at least two more blocks already but I didn’t have time to make them yet.

One other block that is not part of ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ is my Flying Kite block.

I had made a while ago that small one with english paper piecing using diamonds and squares. It was just trying something and for fun and that’s why I hadn’t plan well how to do the outside pieces. The big one is made with normal piecing using diamonds and triangles. Have to say that it looks easier than it is because the points where hard to match. Now I have drawn also foundation paper piecing patternfor this. I would like to share that but don’t know how to make that printable to share it here.

Here you can see the general idea how I made the big Flying Kite block. If you are interested I’m happy to share the measurements. And now I send you warm sunshine!

Days are much longer and now I can see the sunset. In winter it sets behind some buildings. Yesterday’s colours were awesome!

I try to eat more colourful!

I try to look more carefully!

for fun

I try to see more creatively!

And now I try to manage with four big puppies! We are again many here and there will be lots of playing, some home schooling and hopefully some sleeping too! This photo is from earlier visit. Lets see if I manage this time to get photo from all four together!

Nero and Hanna: waiting for the packet!

Vof vof, it’s me Hanna!  With Nero we have been waiting for The Packet! While waiting we did many things.

Nero and Hanna

It’s coming from far away and we woked up many mornings watching the sunshine on the Fabric Forest.

Fabric Forest quilt by Teje

Fell a sleep many evenings … watching the same sunshine! One day I had bath and I looked like a wet bear!

Hanna had bath

Sometimes we got tired to wait. Isn’t it coming yet, Nero?!

Nero and Hanna

We had delicious food! Hb made it and said it’s soufle. I know there was bacon and that’s my favourite!

soufle

We had walks and picked little flowers. If you stop to smell the grass and look around you, you can see beautiful tiny things that other wise you wouldn’t notice. I think fairy uses that green thing to comb her hair.

wild flowers

Sometimes you can see bigger things. Nero’s job is to take rubbishes out. Look what he found one day! Is this a treasure or trash? I know I can fix it and it will be my treasure. It’s iron and there is mirror in the middle. That could be changed to something else, like my photo for example! No, now I know! I shall put there photo of me and Nero!

Hanna and old mirror

Hmmm, perhaps I shall make picture with Nero, Nelli, Foxy and me. That would be really nice.

We have been sewing a lot. Mostly I like the crown we made for The Honey Pot Bee! I want to give this crown to my hero, Nero! Last Monday he wasn’t well and we were so worried. You know that he is 12,5 years. But fortunately from Tuesday he was well again! What a relief to see him again happy, sitting on his favourite place, playing with ball, ears up and enjoying his small walks. Today I took the trash bag out and Nero said: ‘shouldn’t I go now out with that bag and not you?’ We all get used to our habits! I said to him: ‘Dear Nero, you can go today to the other road to read some new news’.

crown

Can you guess how fun it was to make this crown! When I was walking I was planning how to do it. I thought that darkened silver would be nice and then I could decorate it with lots of gemstones and with some colourful glass pieces. I love those turquoise diamonds! There is also silver thread!

crown

And I show you how I made the fun ribbon for the edge.

chevron edge

I was thinking hard how to add something to the edge and looked my fabric stash. Hmm something with lines … haa, yes chevron is just what I need! I didn’t cut the rest of the piece before marking it on the back side. I drew line where the stitiching should be and then added 1/4″ seam allowance.

My crown became improvised. I mixed up with my notes and those colourful triangles are not the same like in the pattern. Also the silver thread was a mess. It just ran out on its own! Lucky me who didn’t have bigger diamonds! But now I have an idea for a patent. Have to try first and then I tell you.

Hey Nero, I think I see something there on the road! Come to see! Is it our bike coming?

Hanna

Yes Hanna, it is and he’s carrying something wrapped with brown paper! It must be The Packet!

Nero

Jippii! Our packet is finally here! How exciting!

Seriously, Nero, is this all we have been waiting for so many days?! I think I’m a little bit disappointed. It did smell interesting but there were nothing to eat or play! Blaah.

quilt wadding

But no worries! I know that you know why this packet was so important. With Nero we can continue to wait; perhaps there will come something else, soon!

Nero and Hanna

You guessed right. This means that the quilt project with puppy and girl will continue.

If you like to continue reading, how about visiting Connie at ‘Free Motion by The River’. She shows us her sewing studio! Wow it is so spacious and well organized. Connie has a cute sewing friend Sadie and at the moment little visitor in her studio.

One quilt pattern has been long time in my to-do list and now I saw it in gorgeus colours! Free pattern ‘Blown Away’ by Jodi Godfrey from ‘Tales of Cloth’, is available at ‘Free Spirit Fabrics’. Shop fabrics here and find inspiration here.

This time I ordered the wadding / batting from ‘Chitter Scraps’ at etsy. I’m very happy and will shop again from them. There are lovely fabrics, too.

Selvages, envelope block, paper piecing tips

Hello, hello hello! Weekend sewing was this time more about organizing all my selvages but also making one more block for The Honey Pot Bee by Molli Sparkles.

For March we got fantastic paper piecing pattern: Envelope block from ‘Tweety Loves Quilting’!

Here is my version in all it’s glory! I like this a lot! I thought the red may pop too much but perhaps it’s time to accept  that I do like red.

envelope and letter quilt block by teje

This block is generally easy to make and Alida’s pattern is very good. My headache was to find fabrics. I don’t have many with tekst and first I thought to create a card. But the space for letter is not very big and then I saw this red fabric on my self and decision was made (I had already cut one other fabric). You could add borders for your letter paper but I though I shall have enough challenge to make the envelope. For that I shall show you few of my tips.

This cute duck fabric has been just waiting on the self and from my fabrics, I think it was a good choise for the envelope. Here is how I feel easier to sew the diagonal pieces when paper piecing. Explination is always under the photo. This may look complicated but when you do this, you’ll see that it’s easy and quick.

Because I wanted to fussy cut (use certain parts of the fabric) pieces for the envelope, I had to place them exactly. Triangle on the left is sewn. You can see on the right triangle how I first pressed the seam allowance. On the right photo you see how I folded the paper pattern on the sewing line.

Then turn the paper so that you can fold the fabric on the same line as the paper. On the right you see the lines on the red fabric and on the duck-fabric.

Now you can put the triangle on the red fabric so that the lines match. Open the triangle and put few pins. Don’t sew yet.

Now turn your piece to see it from the paper side and add pins for sewing. Take away the pins from the fabric’s side and sew.

Trim the seam allowance to 1/4″. As you can see the balloon cords didn’t match as hard I tried. My mistake was that the triangle wasn’t exactly straight. We talk about 1 millimetre here! I went to eat and knew I have to fix it. I ripped only some stitches, sew 1 mm lower, pressed and voila, fixed! I sew the stamp with sik sak twice around.

paper piecing tips

My #saturdaynightcraftalong with Lucy from ‘Charm About You’ went with organizing all my selvages. I saw that if I want to use any of them, only way to find something is to empty all the box and arrange them somehow. On the left you see the 3.5″ squares I save from all the fabrics for my project: fabric sampler quilt (haven’t started yet).

selvages

Everything is out and in order. Those in the basket I have been already using! Yes, I took the brave step and thought they have been preserved long enough! Started to worry about the expiring date!

selvages by Nero's Post

To find something or looking what to use, there has to be some kind of order (for me). And they can’t stay on the table even how cute they look.

selvages by teje

On the left by colour, from blue, turquoise, green, yellow, red, brown, low volumes and black (2).

In the middle some collections still together and most favourites with few specials.

On the right solids and selvages from the side where is no text (yes I save those too).

*********  !!!  If you don’t use/save selvages, I’m interested !!!  *************

The Honey Pot Bee

Hello! I have a honey pot full of the sweetest, helthiest honey! Bees have collected it from tasty, Cretan herbs!

patchwork jars

honey

I made also jars with blueberry- and rasberry jam, strawberry marmelade and one jar has candies. Perhaps I’ll make one more with olives.

When having many projects going on, it’s better to create extra design walls. This is small portable board. I sew the little jars together but didn’t connect them yet with the honey pot. Also the self is not sewn because I don’t know yet how I shall place these blocks. For the upper small jars I have add small bottom corners to make them a little bit around.

the honey pot bee

Here are all my ‘The Honey Bee’ blocks until now.

the honey pot bee

Visit the page ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ for all the details and info.

On my big, main design wall is the ‘Dream Catcher’ and I wouldn’t like to take it down because it would be difficult to arrange it back again.

Dream Catcher by Teje

I try to manage with improvised, temporary design walls as long as possible. This one with the baby quilt project, is simply a long piece of fleece (use wadding if you have a spare piece) folded double. Wood stick is in the fold and with a cord-loop it’s hanging on the nail.

design wall

If I hadn’t saved the small scraps from the ‘Pic Nic on the Beach’ quilt, how could I have made the wheeles for Moomin’s car?! He stopped the car because saw one tiny hedgehog walking in the middle of the road!

Moomins car

Today I shall give one baby quilt away and then can concentrate to Moomins’ houses! You know there are always too many ideas and projects we are drawn to! I would love to do paper piecing, eep and foundation. I would love to dontinue ‘Grand Canal’ with diamonds! Perhaps I shall make the C for my letters.

I hope to finish Moomins soon to make still one more baby quilt top until it’s again time for puppies to visit us!

Thank you for stopping by and for your lovely, sweet comments here, in IG and in Fb!
