Nero and Hanna: waiting for the packet!

Vof vof, it’s me Hanna!  With Nero we have been waiting for The Packet! While waiting we did many things.

Nero and Hanna

It’s coming from far away and we woked up many mornings watching the sunshine on the Fabric Forest.

Fabric Forest quilt by Teje

Fell a sleep many evenings … watching the same sunshine! One day I had bath and I looked like a wet bear!

Hanna had bath

Sometimes we got tired to wait. Isn’t it coming yet, Nero?!

Nero and Hanna

We had delicious food! Hb made it and said it’s soufle. I know there was bacon and that’s my favourite!

soufle

We had walks and picked little flowers. If you stop to smell the grass and look around you, you can see beautiful tiny things that other wise you wouldn’t notice. I think fairy uses that green thing to comb her hair.

wild flowers

Sometimes you can see bigger things. Nero’s job is to take rubbishes out. Look what he found one day! Is this a treasure or trash? I know I can fix it and it will be my treasure. It’s iron and there is mirror in the middle. That could be changed to something else, like my photo for example! No, now I know! I shall put there photo of me and Nero!

Hanna and old mirror

Hmmm, perhaps I shall make picture with Nero, Nelli, Foxy and me. That would be really nice.

We have been sewing a lot. Mostly I like the crown we made for The Honey Pot Bee! I want to give this crown to my hero, Nero! Last Monday he wasn’t well and we were so worried. You know that he is 12,5 years. But fortunately from Tuesday he was well again! What a relief to see him again happy, sitting on his favourite place, playing with ball, ears up and enjoying his small walks. Today I took the trash bag out and Nero said: ‘shouldn’t I go now out with that bag and not you?’ We all get used to our habits! I said to him: ‘Dear Nero, you can go today to the other road to read some new news’.

crown

Can you guess how fun it was to make this crown! When I was walking I was planning how to do it. I thought that darkened silver would be nice and then I could decorate it with lots of gemstones and with some colourful glass pieces. I love those turquoise diamonds! There is also silver thread!

crown

And I show you how I made the fun ribbon for the edge.

chevron edge

I was thinking hard how to add something to the edge and looked my fabric stash. Hmm something with lines … haa, yes chevron is just what I need! I didn’t cut the rest of the piece before marking it on the back side. I drew line where the stitiching should be and then added 1/4″ seam allowance.

My crown became improvised. I mixed up with my notes and those colourful triangles are not the same like in the pattern. Also the silver thread was a mess. It just ran out on its own! Lucky me who didn’t have bigger diamonds! But now I have an idea for a patent. Have to try first and then I tell you.

Hey Nero, I think I see something there on the road! Come to see! Is it our bike coming?

Hanna

Yes Hanna, it is and he’s carrying something wrapped with brown paper! It must be The Packet!

Nero

Jippii! Our packet is finally here! How exciting!

Seriously, Nero, is this all we have been waiting for so many days?! I think I’m a little bit disappointed. It did smell interesting but there were nothing to eat or play! Blaah.

quilt wadding

But no worries! I know that you know why this packet was so important. With Nero we can continue to wait; perhaps there will come something else, soon!

Nero and Hanna

You guessed right. This means that the quilt project with puppy and girl will continue.

If you like to continue reading, how about visiting Connie at ‘Free Motion by The River’. She shows us her sewing studio! Wow it is so spacious and well organized. Connie has a cute sewing friend Sadie and at the moment little visitor in her studio.

One quilt pattern has been long time in my to-do list and now I saw it in gorgeus colours! Free pattern ‘Blown Away’ by Jodi Godfrey from ‘Tales of Cloth’, is available at ‘Free Spirit Fabrics’. Shop fabrics here and find inspiration here.

This time I ordered the wadding / batting from ‘Chitter Scraps’ at etsy. I’m very happy and will shop again from them. There are lovely fabrics, too.

I’m joining my favourite linky parties! All the buttons are on my sidelist. Click to visit to see what other are sewing!

Thank you so much for reading my story! Kisses to you sweet friends for your lovely messages!

Puppies and Paper Piecing

Hi dear friends! I hope you had a great weekend! We have holiday ‘Clean Monday’. That means the Easter fast begins. Today people go for a pic nic and to fly kites. They eat sea food, salads and enjoy the day with friends and family. Weather looks good for a pic nic and there is a gentle windy so there will fly many kites today!

paper piecing

I have said this many times but ‘donkey bridge’ appears so often in my thoughts when I’m blogging. I didn’t find yet name for this paper pieced block I have made, but in fact it looks like a happy kite on the sky! I shall name this and make also tutorial. I shall try to make also ‘without paper’ pieced or foundation pattern (no idea yet if that can be logical to make).

puppies-waiting-for-food

When you have four big puppies at home and one of them is teenager, you don’t need to think how to spend your time. It’s more to think if I could possibly make few stitches when everyone is resting after the supper. Here they are waiting for dinner. We wake up Very Early! Hmmm … that’s different with human teenagers and puppy teenagers! We go many walks every day and when finally each puppy has had their walk, I’m so ready just to sit. Have you tried to paper piece when you walk?

Nero, Hanna, Paris

Fortunately the gorgeus weather allows puppies to be in the garden as much as they like. Notice the green forest! We didn’t dare to cut away all the grass because one of the puppies loves to dig and get dirty with the delicious, wet solid!  So as les she sees the ground the better. Gardening has to wait a little bit.

img_8570

Saturday evening I thought it’s time to do little paper piecing which I had missed. These papers came with the ‘Love Qulting & Patchwork’ magazine few years ago (issue 24/2015). Squares are 1.5″x 1.5″.

english paper piecing

I continued early morning on Sunday because after too early wake up, eating and playing, all the puppies sleep again! I coulnd’t think of going back to bed 9:30 so I made second coffee and sew.  It went a little bit wonky. I guess the thing is the corners of the diamonds. They are so small! But fabric is forgiving and after removing the papers and pressing, it looks okey.

London

At least my sewing friends approve it totally … ‘it’s so beautiful! can I just get the goodies’! Behind you can see Nero’s and Hanna’s taverna. Table/floor cloth has to be colourful and the food is served on the little chairs. Especially for Nero it’s much more comfortable to eat when the bowl is higher. I guess that’s nice for any big dog.

Paris

‘Hey birdie’ where are you flew?

sewing suitcases

I have up-dated my sewing suitcases. The red one on the left was my first and it has usually been in the ‘hexagon’ project box. It needed clearing up and at the same time it was good to make an other one for quilting. Usually I hand quilt with Perle no 8 cotton but now I had a project where the green and light blue threads were good. The brown suitcase on the left was a present from ‘Tillkkutie‘ and the purple scissors from ‘Chromatobalomata’. Thank you friends!

sewing suitcases

Which are the few needles I really use? For the needles I add piece of felt with double sided tape (you can use felt, wadding or fleece).

sewing suitcase

You may think what’s  going on with my hexagons. They have been forgotten because I don’t like anymore my plan. Now I’m seriously thinking to rip the flowers apart and sew them more by colour to make few pillows.

paper piecing diamonds

Could you please help me to find a name for this ‘kite’ block! Perhaps ‘Spring Kite’?

Thank you so much for visiting! It was really nice to see you! Now it’s better I start to prepare the lunch before ‘they’ are all in the kitchen. You know that you don’t need big house even you have many puppies. Any way they are usually all in the same ‘corner’ and ‘in your feet’!

Thank you for your sweet comments and for reading and following my blog! Have a great day and see you soon!

Hanna’s Post: {Yellow Submarine} quilt

Vof vof friends! I’m happy to see you and hope you are fine! Today I show you this quilt …

Hanna and quilt

… which we tried to finish for the Christmas and to put it in Santa’s bag. That didn’t happen and we gave this quilt to hb few weeks ago. I’m trying to find the submarine …

Hanna and quilt

… but I see birds, jars, letters, cars, scooters … nothing looks submarine to me … it is kind of ship right?

Hanna singing

Haa, now I understand the name! When we were quilting this, I was often singing “Yellow Submarine”! My extempore video didn’t turn out good enough to show, have to exercise more,  so you can listen Ringo Starr singing ‘Yellow Submarine‘.

kumiko fujita fabric

Pattern is simple, 5″ x 5″ squares in point. We started with a charm pack ‘Tiki Tok’ by Jenn Ski. It has lovely colours with vintage feel, colours that hb likes. Yellow fabric with letters and text is by Kumiko Fujita. That we bought long time ago and used the last pieces here. Some other fabrics are from England, US and Norway (www.stoffstil.com).

img_8381

We have had quite cold winter here in Crete and wanted to give this quilt even there are still few stitiching lines to make. All the fabrics are from our stash and trying to keep it in warm vintage colours was a challenge. Border with texts is Ikea fabric. It’s fun and many quilters like to use it.

img_8360

With rainy days, we couldn’t go out for photo shoot. When the last quilting will be done and it’s washed and wrinkled, I shall show you more photos. This quilt is 60″ x 75,5″ so it wasn’t easy to hold it and my only idea to show it at home was on the bed.

Hanna

I’m snuggling here because yesterday and today has been a little boring. Our sewing machine is in cleaning/service and someone had a ‘good’ idea to make a general cleaning in our sewing room. It’s so upside down that I can’t step in at all. Everything is out and I do hope she puts them back in same place because other wise we can’t find anything. But hey, she found the long lost needle felting needles! Like to hear from where? They were in a shoe box behind the fabric boxes ??? With dog’s logic you don’t keep shoe boxes in a sewing room!

Hanna singing

I decorated with my puppy friends and spring greeen lights! Why don’t we make quilt for the bed ‘header’?!

quilts by teje

Now it’s absolutely time for my afternoon walk and sun is almost shining, so quickly out before the rain comes! Then I think I need to give a paw with the cleaning. We have to finish today because tomorrow I want to start a new baby quilt!

Colourful Days

Hello Dear Friends! My days have been very colourful with 4 puppies around, one cat (hiding) and colourful quilt plans! Today is my birthday and I think great way to celebrate is to enjoy colours!

Kona color panel

When you are surrouded by four puppies, it’s better to do something you don’t need to concentrate too much and what doesn’t need too much space. When puppies were sleeping a while today, I made some stitches to this Kona color panel. By the way, I have learnt at school to say ‘colour’ but I’m not sure should I use ‘color’? What you think: does it matter what word I use when writing in internet?

fabrics

My main subject today is the new mosaic challenge by Rachel at ‘Stitched in Color’.  I love her idea and her posts are beautifully written and filled with most colourful, inspiring photos! This time the theme is Cathedral Windows – how exciting! Fabric shop is wonderful The Loopy Ewe! They have fantastic collection of fabrics and well organized shop. It was easy to search the fabrics. They have also good way to find fabrics by colour (by lots of shades of colours).

You may think that it was easy to make these mosaics because I picked many fabrics from Kaffe Fassett. I can say that this time I felt quite easy to find what I want but still it took hours to decide. I wanted to choose more ‘un common’ fabrics but with the theme Cathedral Windows, Kaffe’s colours are perfect (for my opinion) and that’s why I ended up picking many of them.

I wish we could make mosaic with 12 fabrics because I have always 2-3 that I just don’t want to leave out. Rachel, what about bigger mosaic?! or would it be then too easy?

In my 1. mosaic the blue prints are moda – Shibori and the others are Kaffe Fassett.

In my 2. mosaic the blue prints are moda -Shibori, turquoise circles are Kaffe Fassett, yellow circles are ‘Summer Song from Riley Blake and the rest of three are ‘Slow & Steady by Tula Pink.

stained-glass-windows-2-the-loopy-ewe

One evening I started to add colour to one of my ’30 Days of Quilt Design’ (also challenge by Rachel). In my illustration the curved ‘leaves’ create interesting repeating pattern. It doesn’t show here yet but you will see it when I finish this.

water colours to quilt design

I can imagine so well those gorgeus Cathedral Windows colours for this design … bright colours for curves and the Shibori blues for filling. Water colours are perfect for this kind of relaxing colouring. Other wise I feel they are quite difficult even so so beautiful!

dogs

Can you guess how hectic our days are with four big dogs and one of them, Paris is 7 months! Paris is gorgeus and sweet Labrador girl! She has grown up a lot (body and mind) and she learns easily many things. Walking with her is every day easier. But, wow, does she has energy and strength! London, sweet Golden Retriewer has been our friend for several years and she is very much like Hanna, calm and easy. Had to stop my lunch to pick camera …dogs

As it’s my Birthday, I continue to have fun (=play with puppies) and as it’s Saturday, I shall continue to stitch the Kona panel. Lucy from ‘Charm about You’ is hosting in IG ‘Saturday Night Craft Along’ and I try to join her every Saturday.

water colours

Thank you for joining my Colourful Birthday! What colours you have in you days this time? What is your favourite colour? My favourite colour changes often but today it’s for sure Pink!

Diamond Cushion

Hi dear friends! This is a cushion I made last minute for the Christmas. Why the ideas come often last minute?

diamond cushion

Then there is not enought time and that’s why now only few quick photos. The evening light inside doesn’t show the colours as bright as they are in real.

fabrics

I cut the diamonds from scraps and 2.5″ stipes.

Sometimes my sewing room is full of helpers. I wish Nero could iron and press because I can’t reach the iron.

Straight line quilting by hand.

pillow with diamonds

Fortunately it’s not raining anymore all the time, only some showers now and them. I had lovely walk with each girl, this time one by one, so they were able to go on their own speed and stop when ever liked. Nero went for a walk with hb. Now it’s raining but looks like we have a good chance to have a ‘dry’ walk in the afternoon.

dogs

Have you tried to take photo of four dogs? They were all nicely in line, looking to the road, but did I have camera glued to my hand? no, so I was late.

I have finished the knitted hat and I wonder who could help with modeling?

I have finished the secret quilt but I don’t know how and where to take photos? Perhaps I try to hang it on the wall.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments and for reading my blog!

Snow, Stash and Bee Blocks

Vof vof friends! Nero here and I’m very happy to see you! I have today many things to show but I just have to start with the coolest thing …

Snow on Nero's head

For you this may be normal stuff but I have never before had snow flake on my head! Look what happens in my garden!

snow in crete

You can imagine that the weather is really cold and it has been raining every day. I went for a short walk and tried to catch the snow flakes – that was fun! But then it turned to water again and the girls had just a small sniff in the garden but were not quick enough for a walk on snow. Rain made the snow disappear soon. Hb went to our village and there it was all white! I hope we can play with the snow later!

Hanna and snow

As it’s Sunday it’s good time to show the latest add to our stash. Santa and dear friends sent to us many goodies!

presents

My dear “american cousin” Sonja sent to me Quilting & Patchwork Coloring book wrapped in this house fabric! I’m excited because I haven’t tried the ‘coloring’ yet! She sent something else too what I’ll show you an other time. Thank you Sonja!

Little suitcase is from my dear Finnish friend Leena! It’s filled with chocolate! We have a nice story with these suitcases. I happened to find one red from one of my trips to Finland. Leena saw that in my blog and got the same! Last year when we met, she gave me little brown suitcase and now sent this for the Christmas! We have a super fun collection! They are designs of  ‘Maileg’. Leena sent also one other most cute thing and that you will also see an other time. Thank you Leena!

presents

Mia, my dear Finnish friend, sent to me dog fabric! How she knew?! She knows and adds always Finnish candies! Hopea toffee is a memory from my youth and I love the strong taste candies! Always packed with cutest details … Thank you Mia! Have a look also Mia’s shop which is filled with most beautiful things!

img_8102

My dear Finnish friend, quilter who lives also in Greece, Anneli, sent to me happy fabrics! There are charm squares, birdies and berries – all my favourites! Thank you Anneli!

fabrics

You may remember that I’m very much affraid of the fireworks. In the Nea Year’s Eve we sat all together until late night and sew this little dog by hand. Pattern is by Kumiko Fujita. It was nice to make but more difficult than paper piecing.

dog block

I haven’t been sewing last days because …

Hanna and Paris

… if I’m in the sewing room, there are two friends waiting for me with ‘crying faces’. ‘Paris’ can’t come to the sewing room because it’s Nelli’s safe-place; Nelli has barely used to me and Hanna but is terrified about other dogs. So the only thing I did, was to finish quickly the star block I had started.

star block

The beginning wasn’t quick because I needed one evening to choose the fabrics! I would have chosen a little bit different if there just were possibilities in my stash. From the colour ‘points’ I like mostly the turquoise and did my best to make similar points with other colours. I had yellow bicycles but I guess I have used the last scrap because couldn’t find any. This is the second block of the new bee …

Molli Sparkles is hosting ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ and I’m so excited to join that! First blocks are out and I love them!

First block is strawberry, which I have done already once for my ‘Strawberry Cake’ wall quilt.

strawberry wall quilt

You may know that when ever you think something is easy piecy, it is not. I had ready cut little squares and the wall quilt front of me and thought this will go so easily. I guess I didn’t see clearly enough without my glasses and ended up with very looooong strawberry …

img_8056

‘Let every strawberry grow and be unique’. Perhaps I shall make one more,  a round one.

my strawberry

I shall use low volumes for these bee blocks.

quilt blocks

There will be also some ‘wild cards’ in this bee, like these trees. Can’t wait to see what other blocks we shall make!

So I guess it’s time to get back to puppies. They have been so good all together! At the moment 3 girls are snoring and me, Nero I’m sleeping on my feathur duvet. Now you think how I write and sleep …  I have of course secretary do do the writing! Not the easiest job to take photo of 4 dogs together. We are all looking for the goodies next to the photographer!

img_8065

Thank you so much for visiting and reading my little stories! Thank you also again for the sweet comments you write!

I’m linking at Sunday Stash, Oh Scrap.

Furry hugs from NERO!

Thoughts for the 2017

Vof vof, vof dear friends! It’s me Hanna here today to tell you about our thoughts and plans for the new year 2017.

Hanna and her garden quilt

I thought to start with this colourful photo. This quilt is ‘Hanna’s Garden’ and it’s like me. I’m happy, I laugh and sing a lot (if there is no camera near). My wish for the new year is Happiness and Health for everyone!

Hanna

Yvonne from ‘Quilting Jet Girl’ made me think about plans and goals for the new year 2017. Visit her linky party!  Pat Sloan made me think about ‘my word’.

I knew right away, what my word of the year should be: it’s FOCUS. I would love to have word FUN or STORY (like Pat) but I know I need to choose FOCUS. I have to start to focus better because if we have thousands of things in our minds it’s difficult to get something done. But I won’t forget FUN or STORY! We need to have fun in our lives! And I love stories! I love to read stories and I enjoy writing small stories. Every quilt is a story and if the quilt itself doesn’t have clear story at least it’s sure there is a story about the idea, inspiration, reason etc. Sometimes there maybe a story written on it …

img_7897

About plans and goals … I’m not for goals but I do make plans all the time. And I like to set challenges. Last year my quilting challenge was curves. As the year went very strangely and wasn’t very progressive, I shall continue with cureves also this year. An other challenge I like to set to myself, is to be more improvising and creative.

dream catcher

In autumn Rachel challenged us with: ’30 Days of Quilt Design’! I really enjoyed making quilt plans and illustrating my designs! There are several I would like to make and hope to have time for that. My favourite design is ‘Dream Catcher’ and I have made small beginning on the design wall.

quilt design

An other favourite is this one with curves. Except the curves, I want to make more foundation paper piecing. That is something I love and really miss.  Hope to make patterns of my own drawings.

quilt design

More curves … and improvising! And more colours! You know for me it’s all about colours!

quilt design

But it’s not all about curves. I really love repeating patterns. Triangles are my favourites and with those you can make what ever you imagine! Stars are always Stars! And wouldn’t they be gorgeus on a dark night sky!

quilt design

I’m just finishing one quilt and shall show it soon. After that the ‘main’ quilt project will be the ‘Grand Canal’ with diamonds. That is really enjoyable project!

Grand Canal

There has been something in my mind for a long time and I hope to do make that/them/those this year.

I shall join ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ by Molli Sparkle. That will be fun and exciting! Queens and Kings has been announced!

diamonds

My etsy shop is waiting for more stuff … selves are very empty after the Christmas. Lots of photographing for the shops is waiting, too.

img_6297

Soon we shall have puppy friends visiting us and you can guess that we shall have fun and play a lot! If some one can catch us with the camera, I shall show you photos!

Hanna

Thank you for visiting and thank you for your sweet comments! I hope you join me and Nero also the next year! We all wish you sparkling, super special new year 2017!!!

Nero

Hugs and Kisses!
