Quilt blocks and spring stuff

Hello! Situation with my blocks was almost the same all month. But then few days ago I stepped into my sewing room and made one extempore filling block. That’s on the left up corner.

The Honey Pot Bee and other blocks

Today I made the book block designed by Kate Basti. That had been in my mind long time and I was happy to find it part of ‘The Honey Pot Bee’! Had it even printed already so it was just to decide what book it would be.

It is for recipes and writes also sweet sewing words (with really small letters!).

After many weeks being too busy with other works, it was nice to sew something easy. I shall make some filling blocks for my ‘The Honey Pot Bee’ project and this is one of them, with few favourites scraps.

May came and I’m thinking when the winter passed? First of May, shephard with his dogs and sheeps had made big, flower wreath!

We went for a drive to Marathi in Akrotiri.

Celebrating name day, birthday and 1st of May we enjoyed delicious sea food!

Back home … lemons … I love to pick them from the tree in our garden.

Bought some flowers to cheer up our garden.

Made some bracelets and read this book. I read all the time something but because I can’t get easily books of my choise, it was great to read a book that hold me tight til the end.

Early morning in my sewing room.  … before the book block …

This could be place to use some letter blocks I have made now and then.

There are still blocks to come in ‘The Honey Pot Bee’, so I won’t connect these yet. Perhaps the letters will wait an other project, book related, that has been on my list.

Thank you for your visit and for your lovely comments!

Sunday Stash and Stuff

Hello dear friends! Welcome to see my ‘this and that’ Sunday stash and stuff! Last Sunday I was happily surprised that I had again fabrics to share … and believe me or not, I have new fabric again! But first I show you my helper.

knitting moose

This is busy busy season and I know you would like to have extra hands. I’m so happy that Miss Moose started to knit (with Hanna’s help) and now I can focus on  my sewing projects.

sewing table

This mess is almost too much for me. Where I cut the fabric? I wish that with a push of button I could get an extra (empty) table! Last night I joined again Lucy at #saturdaynightcraftalong .…  sorry, I went to pick the link and forgot myself in IG to see what new stuff there was from last night! I really enjoy this craft along and it helps me to ‘work’ on saturday evenings … even I wonder if I can call this work.

Dear friend surprised me last week! I feel so lucky and happy to have friends all around the world! You know how amazing this blogland is and how special friendships we can make even we haven’t met in life! With Doreen from ‘Treadlemusic’, we have been friends for a long time and I know if we ever met, we would laugh our selves to sick! When Doreen went for a trip (perhaps with her awesome bike!) and saw this fabric she thought me and the sea/beach photos I show often. Thank you Doreen for this gift and for making me laugh!

sea fabric

I guess we all enjoy seeing photos and life in different places. It’s like making a short trip and also it’s really nice to have an idea where and how our friends live and spend their time (that we know if they are quilters!). So here you go … our lunch one day last week …

shrimps in greek way

I’m lucky in many ways, one is that hb is fantastic cook and likes to cook! I’m not a kitchen person at all. Here we enjoy huge shrimps in delicious tomatoe sauce in Greek way by my hb! And glass of local wine … good for health! Today we went for a Sunday lunch to the local taverna/grill ‘Mitsos’ in our village. That’s our favourite place.

After siesta and coffee we continue often until late evening (sometimes may wake up at night and do a little bit and then continue sleeping). Sea glass vases and candle glasses from our ‘Trikimia” sea glass studio.

Last year I made lots of fabric hearts from Helen’s book ‘Modern Vintage Gifts’. I love them and have them again on the drift wood tree. As I make now some little fabric items, today I shall make also hearts.

fabric hearts

I try to be busy these days because soon we shall have a visitor who keeps me playing all day long!

bracelets and pendants

Can you guess who will come? Yes, Paris the puppy! Her sleeping toy is waiting for her!

‘How it is to be an animal?’ I wish I knew (or as they say be careful what you wish). But still life with puppies would be much more enjoyable and easier if we could understand them better. We should understand also that often they can’t understand us. My treasure books by ‘Susan Branch‘, hand written books from a special friend! You just need to see Susan’s site!

books

There is my traditional Finnish straw goat, Christmas decoration. By the way, Santa Claus in Finnish is Christmas Goat?! Should search from where that comes!

christmas goat

This year I have made winter wonderland on the big window in the dining area. Miss Moose is sitting there on a big log and of course knitting. More you will see soon.

It’s difficult to find the Christmas feeling when most of the days outside are like this!

greek garden

After living in Greece over 20 years, I have made my own little Christmas traditions but I can’t find or create the magical Christmas atmosphere there is in Finland or any other snowy, cold place. So if you have that, enjoy even you miss hot sunshine!

Bracelets, crochet, bags …

Hello friends! It’s time to fly to Finland. Tomorrow morning Finnair’s blue-white wings are waiting for me.

laundry day

Last minute laundry … I’m so looking for to wear my fresh washed knitted jacket! and boots and scarves! Which colours to take with me?

scarves

This time I go with purple and blue. I feel so autumn-purple! and wanted to make a new bracelet for my vacation.

bracelet

So I did make one purple bracelet … and few more …

bracelets

Then I had to decide what to take with me because I need to travel very light … you know what happens when I return. These come with me … the lether one was Foxy’s collar (it was too big for her and for me it’s perfect double wrist-band).

jewelries

Hmm … I shall leave the coral bracelet home; I’m sure one bracelet is about one fat quarter!

bags

I don’t like to leave things to last minute, so I finished these custom order bags today in the morning and then managed to deliver them. More about these in an other bag post.

crochet

I have made more crochet squares for my shawl project and these are at the moment the last ones. When I return I shall spread these and see if they are enough and hopefully can start to sew them together. It will be a colourful shawl!

sleeping cat

Weather has been gorgeus! Few days the wind was from south and it was really hot but mostly it’s now so perfect. Nelli loves to sleep in the sun. I leave you now with this scene, still so much like summer …

Crete

… and next time I shall send you autumn (I hope not yet winter) postcards from Finland.

Thank you for stopping by! See you soon in North!

{Dreaming at Dusk} and photos

Hi dear friends! Dreaming at dusk sounds really nice! My dictionary says that dusk is dark, twilight, grey dawn … I feel that dusk is foggy, twiglight yes, misty … soft pastel colours and greys come to my mind.

twilight

Crete

I was looking if I can find ‘dusk’ from my photos which usually have lots of colours.

Marathi

Afternoon in Crete has usually most beautiful soft colours! That time is very short time after the sunset and before the dark.

crochet stone by teje

But let me tell you where this came from.  Rachel at ‘Stitched in Color’ has again Mosaic Contest going on – last moment in fact to join! Theme is {Dreaming at Dust} and she has created once again the most beautiful photo collection to inspire us! There are 2 quilts which I want to make both! And the colours in her post are so so delicious! Sponsor is fantastic ‘Lark Cottons’! Their site is beautiful and inviting! It’s practically organized so it’s easy to find what you are looking for. Of course it’s terrible difficult to pick something because all their fabrics are so beautiful! I think I spent two evenings to make my mosaics even my plan was this time to go with my istinct and not to think too much.

Twilight

Dawn

Of course I hope to win but to choose which one is my favourite is difficult … I hope Twilight wins! Have a look what others have chosen to their mosaics – there are so many beautiful collections!

These are what I found most near to ‘dusk’ from my photos.

Thank you for stopping by! Thank you for your amazing comments on my ‘After the Storm’ quilt which is nominated at the ‘Blogger’s Quilt Festival’ (last post). Thank you for your Birthday wishes to Nero! Welcome all new followers!

Blogger’s Quilt Festival: After the Storm

Vof vof and welcome to Mediterranean! You just landed on Crete, beautiful island of Greece! Me Hanna, I’m your hostes during your visit. I know that you flew here to see the ‘Blogger’s Quilt Festival’, which is hosted and organized by Amy Ellis at ‘Amy’s Creative Side’ so without further words, lets go to see the quilts …

After the Storm quilt by Teje

‘After the Storm’ is our entry to the Small Quilts category.

storm at sea quilt project

We started this quilt with a beautiful fat quarter bundle of blues and greys, Kona solids. Long time favourite pattern Storm at Sea was just perfect for this project.

storm at sea

As we live on one of the most sunny islands, sun shines often on our quilts.

After the Storm quilt top

If you like to read more about this process, click HERE.

After the Storm quilt top

Me Hanna, I’m always helping in the sewing studio and here I start to quilt by paw. It was still really hot day and we stayed only for a short while outside. Then there was no sign of storm yet …

Hanna and quilting

First I quilted around the sun but later I changed my mind. When I was quilting the first circles, I realized that it looks better if there are only circles.

hand quilting

For “custom’s recuest” I changed also the centre to look more sun and not so much star.

hand quilting

I named this quilt ‘After the Storm’ because of the storm at sea pattern and because the time was really ‘after the storm’ in our life.

After the Storm

QUILT DETAILS:

Name: ‘After the Storm

Design: Teje Karjalainen

Block pattern: storm at sea

Size: 30″x 30″ (76 x 76 cm)

Technics: pieced by machine, quilted by hand

Category: Small Quilts

binding

Looks like this quilt had more changes than usually, because also the binding had to be changed. First fabric didn’t behave well and I did it again with a fabric that looks like little waves.

storm at sea

One day I want to make this pattern so that the blocks are on point! Also the look change quite much depending how the colours are placed.

We went for a drive yesterday to take sea view photos … ‘After the Storm’ we said … in fact it was before the storm …

storm at sea

I’m really happy that the strong wind didn’t take my quilt! It was a ‘shoot in a second’ to take the photos. No way to plan well about the background etc. We were really up and the road was a serpentine … when I turned right, what I saw …

goat

She is at the edge of terrible high place and I couldn’t go very near to take photo to show you the deepness. On my leftside was walking some one else …

goat

To have a small idea about how high we are, look the little cars down at the end of the road.

Crete

Until now I never had problem with high places, driving next to the edge of narrow road high on the mountains, but yesterday I didn’t have ‘stomach’ to do that and we returned back from the first curve. If you have the currage to go down, follow this video … after you park the car, you still need to walk to reach the beach down.

‘After the storm’ was in fact today. Early in the morning we woke up to rain and thunder, first since April! Wow, it was great! Gorgeus smell and cool wind! After few hours sky cleared up and sun was shining again.

Blogger’s Quilt Festival: Strawberry Cake

Vof vof  and welcome to ‘Nero’s Post’ in Greece! I’m Nero the Shephard and I’m happy to tell you that it’s again ‘Blogger’s Quilt Festival’ time! This fantastic quilt festival is hosted and organized by Amy Ellis at ‘Amy’s Creative Side’!

Strawberry Cake

We can join the festival with two quilts and our ‘Strawberry Cake’ is our entry to the Scrappy quilt category.

This quilt was a sudden project because we couldn’t resisit making the strawberry we saw at Katherine’s blog ‘Sew Me Something Good’!

strawberry patchwork

We made simple tutorials about our process:  1) How I do Patchwork and 2) How I finish Quilt.

patchwork

Adding some favourite scraps and hand appliqued mugs, we created this fun, small quilt to cheer up our sewing studio (today it doesn’t look like that … something should be done).

threads

Here we are: me Nero on the right and Hanna on the left. If you haven’t met us before, I’m almost 12 years young boy (my mom was Belgian Shephard and dad German Shephard) and Hanna is 10 years young girl (we don’t know who were her mom and dad). Teje, our sewist, is from Finland  (her face is on the sidelist).

Nero and Hanna

Here is our cat Nelli. She often takes over my big bed. We are good friends but often she likes her own privacy.

Mostly we write about our quilting and other crafts but now and then we share photos from our walks and drives around.

Back to ‘Strawberry Cake’ … this quilt asked for scrappy binding and for the label we made simple pot holder (idea came from the kitchen fabric).

30 days of quilt design

Hello friends! New week begins with new challenges! This one comes from ‘Stitched in Color’ by Rachel. For me the timing is perfect as I just started to plan new design. for a long time I wanted to make a quilt from a painting. I look my grandfather’s and mother’s painting on the walls thinking quilt ideas. My mother painted lots of colourful paintings and many Greek potteries. I chose to start with this one. This painting is not at my home, so I made raw illustration from the photo and add some colour to help me to plan the dark and light areas.

quilt idea from painting

You can read all the details from Rachel’s post, but the main idea is to make 30 quilt designs (you don’t need to make 30). They can be illustrated or made with computer and you don’t need to make quilt of them. There is enough time so no need to make exactly every day. I try to make one every second day. This happens in IG so draw and illustrate your ideas and post the photo. See the # from Rachels’ post. Look also in IG with #30DaysofQuiltDesign – there are already many very interesting designs.

fabrics

I picked my blues and solid scraps. This colour palet has only blues … not even a bit of orange …

blue scraps

I have made small, portable design wall and it’s practical for this kind of project because it has to be next to the sewing machine.

small design wall

Do you see quilt ideas every where?

evening on the beach

Beack to my design wall. I’m not sure yet … this may change to more simple background ….

on my design wall

… because I hope to make improv curves for the pottery …. my fingers and itching to use this ruler …

quick curve ruler

It’s very good that I ‘have’ to put my design ideas on the paper because other wise I forget them … 10 min ago I was thinking about few ‘long time in my mind’ ideas and thought to make a quick note about them …. and now I can’t remember them. Have to carry pen and paper all the time with me!

greek pottery

This project will go on as “Greek Pottery 1”; I hope there will be more of these. My mother loved colours and found inspiration from Greece and Greek postcards. She painted many pottery paintings.

If you like, follow me on Instagram (button is on the sidelist up). There are different photos than here because I don’t carry camera with me always … but today I shall take it with me …
