{Village of Moomins} Baby Quilt

Hello, hello dear friends! You have seen some sneaky peakys of cars and houses, Moomins popping out here and there and finally it’s show time: {The Village of Moomins}!

Village of Moomins baby quilt by Teje

When I started to plan this baby quilt in my mind I was thinking of a small village with houses and gardens. Then my friend said there could be cars because she liked the little cars I had used for pillows.

When having all the puppies here and not being able to plan with fabrics as I often do, I had made this illustration.

So I continued with the houses and gardens but instead of the dog and tree, I started to think how to add cars.

I was in trouble with my fabric stash. You may see here lots of blue and green but I felt that I couldn’t find the right shades. Like the cloudy sky below – so fun but totally too busy. I think this pink house had been the first one I made, but later it was left out.

Because my design wall has still the ‘Dream Catcher’ project I had to make improvised small place to see well my plans, fabrics, colours etc.

For the cars, I drew first simple car with few lines to see if that could look like a car and then started with fabric.

Vintage thread spool had good size to draw the circles and a scrap saver may find just something perfect for the wheeles.

I made houses, changed some of them and tried to find out how to add the important white.

I made white houses and they gave the light I always need in my quilts. Traditional Greek houses has been white so this Moomins’ village may be some where in Greece.

{Mouse Meeting} small quilt

Hi dear friends! I’m happy to show you my new quilt {Mouse Meeting}!

{Mouse Meeting} quilt by Teje

This story began with little scraps. When I was organizing my scraps I saw that there was lots of triangles and after collecting them I started to make blocks surrounding them with white scraps; first post is HERE.

I liked the blocks but wasn’t very excited about this project until I saw it on the sky! Quilting was a big question and finally I thought to try free motion by hand.

When I lived in Finland I didn’t like very much snow. Now when I don’t have it, I miss that beautiful scene. Because the wadding is fluffy, quilting looks like some little creatures has ran around on the snow. This project began with name ‘Splinters on Snow’ but because mice wanted to have a meeting, I changed the name.

First members are waiting the meeting to start and the quilt to dry. This sweetheart is my favourite! Pink and green are so cute pair!

First all the mice were looking around the meeting place…

Few of them came last minute to join the meeting. I made them a little bit in hurry so you can see that it’s worth of changing the thread to matching colour when you sew something like this.

Oh, did they have gossips to tell!

Early arrived mice helped to finish the quilt …

And there has to be photo of all members together so they can remember this fun meeting!

Every year there is The Blogger’s Quilt Festival. Fantastic event for all us quilters to see beautiful quilts, find new friends and show our quilts. This year there is a small change and the spring festival is in Instagram, organized again by amazing Amy from “Amy’s Creative Side”! Thank you Amy! You can see the quilts also HERE, if you don’t use instagram.

Thank you for joining me today! I hope you enjoyed my mouse story! When I have played enough with my little mice, I shall catch them on the quilt and hang it on the wall in my sewing studio.

{Gone Fishing} Baby Quilt

Hello and welcome to start the new chapter at ‘Nero’s Post and Patch’!

Gone Fishing baby quilt by Teje

Good way to begin the new year and new chapter in my blog is to show the new baby quilt {Gone Fishing}.

This baby quilt was a request from a dear friend for her new born grandson. I was really happy to have these blue fish fabrics in my stash (bought from Finland).

I was told that baby’s mom likes stars so I made big stars featuring those fun fabrics. To make the stars pop out well I decided to add shashing which I don’t do often. Sky blue sashing is Kona cotton. Quilting is made by hand as you can see, with Perle cotton no 8 in turquoise.

For the backing I had the perfect shade of blue and the label was made with few fishes. If you like to read more about this project, click HERE.

There are many linky parties each week and I like to join them to meet my quilter friends. On of my favourites is ‘Fabric Tuesday’ because it’s the first party I found and started to join. Megan and Heather from ‘Quilt Story’ are really sweet ladies and I’m very happy that they have featured several times my works. Thank you ladies for featuring also this quilt top…

It’s finally winter here and we have had rains and some very cold days. But today the sky is blue like in the photo above! I just took out the little triangles and got few great shoots – yes that quilt top is finished and you’ll see it soon.

So the baby quilt is out of my hands now and it’s time to start to think about the next baby quilt, for a girl this time. I have one pattern in my mind; something I think would be fun for a baby and a pattern that I haven’t done before.
