{Puppy and Girl} baby quilt

Hi dear friends! I hope you are fine and enjoy the summer! It has been really hot here in Greece and finally yesterday evening arrived wind, can’t say cool but a little bit refreshing. That means back to works and sewing.

This quilt was improvised, free style project and lots of fun! Taking photos under the really strong summer light was difficult and I’m still not happy with the pictures but as this quilt has been finished for a while, it’s high time to show it. You know, new projects are on the way all the time!

My plan for this quilt was to make a quilt without any requests, not to think what there should be, what not, what colours some one likes or doesn’t like and not to worry if it works out or not. Just to create picture quilt with improvised piecing.

I thought if I managed to make these little dogs and other creatures in the beginning of my quilting career, I should now be able to make one nice big puppy.

Puppy and Girl by Teje

Beginning of the girl was a scrap, left over from drunkard’s path and it looked excatly little girl’s hair!

quilting

This time I used Warm & Natural wadding. Basted and pinned on the floor under Nelli’s control.

Puppy has collar from same ‘leather’ as the shoes of the girl. Leash and the balloon’s ribbon are raw edge bias stripe, the same like I used for the flowers in my ‘Florist’ quilt.

Hand quilting with Perle Cotton no 8. Even I try sometimes other threads for quilting, I return to these because they are just so beautiful!

One of the happy moments is always when I can trim the edges and start the binding. I was thinking and thinking what can I use for the binding. Then I saw piece of this stripy fabric in my binding box and knew This is It! It looks quite busy but I allow this quilt to be busy, happy, fun, like a neigborhood with laughing kids, puppies, balloons, flower gardens and little cosy homes!

Hanna’s Post: {Yellow Submarine} quilt

Vof vof friends! I’m happy to see you and hope you are fine! Today I show you this quilt …

Hanna and quilt

… which we tried to finish for the Christmas and to put it in Santa’s bag. That didn’t happen and we gave this quilt to hb few weeks ago. I’m trying to find the submarine …

Hanna and quilt

… but I see birds, jars, letters, cars, scooters … nothing looks submarine to me … it is kind of ship right?

Hanna singing

Haa, now I understand the name! When we were quilting this, I was often singing “Yellow Submarine”! My extempore video didn’t turn out good enough to show, have to exercise more,  so you can listen Ringo Starr singing ‘Yellow Submarine‘.

kumiko fujita fabric

Pattern is simple, 5″ x 5″ squares in point. We started with a charm pack ‘Tiki Tok’ by Jenn Ski. It has lovely colours with vintage feel, colours that hb likes. Yellow fabric with letters and text is by Kumiko Fujita. That we bought long time ago and used the last pieces here. Some other fabrics are from England, US and Norway (www.stoffstil.com).

We have had quite cold winter here in Crete and wanted to give this quilt even there are still few stitiching lines to make. All the fabrics are from our stash and trying to keep it in warm vintage colours was a challenge. Border with texts is Ikea fabric. It’s fun and many quilters like to use it.

With rainy days, we couldn’t go out for photo shoot. When the last quilting will be done and it’s washed and wrinkled, I shall show you more photos. This quilt is 60″ x 75,5″ so it wasn’t easy to hold it and my only idea to show it at home was on the bed.

Hanna

I’m snuggling here because yesterday and today has been a little boring. Our sewing machine is in cleaning/service and someone had a ‘good’ idea to make a general cleaning in our sewing room. It’s so upside down that I can’t step in at all. Everything is out and I do hope she puts them back in same place because other wise we can’t find anything. But hey, she found the long lost needle felting needles! Like to hear from where? They were in a shoe box behind the fabric boxes ??? With dog’s logic you don’t keep shoe boxes in a sewing room!

Hanna singing

I decorated with my puppy friends and spring greeen lights! Why don’t we make quilt for the bed ‘header’?!

Now it’s absolutely time for my afternoon walk and sun is almost shining, so quickly out before the rain comes! Then I think I need to give a paw with the cleaning. We have to finish today because tomorrow I want to start a new baby quilt!

{Orange Stones} quilt and scraps

Vof vof vof dear friends! It’s scrappy time! This time we made really small scraps from our little fabric pieces. They were for a special occasion and this quilt was packed with them…

Orange Stones quilt and Nero

Hmmm, I haven’t changed much these last years. This quilt was made some years ago. I never slept with it and thought that one day it may find a good home.

circles

Because I couldn’t go to find a card and I use to make things on my own, I had to find an idea for a card … that was difficult.  But then something started to ‘come out’. I cut circles, tiny as a finger nail. Lots of colours, not exactly same size of shape … as the years are in our lives. Some are more colourful, some less, some bigger, some smaller.

IMG_5619

Eighty circles for my father’s 80 years. I hope his years has been as colourful as the circles …

IMG_5616

I was thinking to cut numbers 8 and 0 on the cover of the card so that circles inside would show through them, but then understood that I couldn’t do that well and would just distroy the whole thing.

IMG_5620

So many colourful years didn’t find space enough to be in lines and rows, so they flew randomly on each others.

‘Orange Stones’ quilt has always been one of my favourites! I like the simple pattern which shows the fabrics well.

Also these fabrics have been my favourites … I think now I have used even the last little scrap of them.

In that time Foxy was still with us … hmmm those happy days … we were a good gang!

Foxy was my sweetheart and Hanna is my dear sister (not real sister).

This quilt got the name from the stones I crocheted that time.

I hope this quilt gives sunshine to my father, cheers him up and brings him lovely memories from Crete.  Happy birthday, father! and many many more colourful years!
