"life is meant to be colourful"

Selvage Pouches

Hi Dear Friends! These selvage pouches didn’t appear here yet even I made them a while ago. After making cases for sunglasses and phones, I continued with {selvage & strips} inspiration.

Both pouches have selvages and strips on both sides. Same colour palet continues on the other side.

We have had two very busy weeks with puppies so zero sewing these days. I have started to make plans for a new, big quilt project. Looking for fabrics and trying to figure out how to make real my ideas. I’m sure it will be lots of fun and excitement!

Star Zipper Pouch – 8 is Great!

Vof vof, Hanna here again! What’s the best way to start new year? Making stars of course!

star zipper pouch

Teje asked me what shall we do for the first project this year and I said stars, lets make happy stars!

star blocks

First we made the blue star but the oranges and pinks were calling us so much that we made second star.

star block

We continued with the orange-pink star because it looked so delicious with the light blue fabric we had in mind for the background.

half square triangles

Now it’s time to tell you about the title: ‘8 is Great’! It’s the 1st challenge of “Project Quilting – Season 8”. We haven’t joined this before and were really happy to read about it. Beginning of the new year makes us want to do new things. So this challenge is to make something quilted with 8. Number eight is great even I’m not so good with numbers and prefer letters. It’s fun how many ideas we quickly found with 8. Perhaps we shall make more ‘8’ things but now about the star pouch, but hurry up, challenge for 8 is only for this week.

hst blocks

Our favourite, wonky star has eight points! Then we felt that we like to add 8 little squares … and 8 triangles …  didn’t plan to make a Christmas tree, but it just came out! I hope you see the snowy tree or no tree at all!

quuilt blocks

When making pouches, we quilt them like we do when making mini quilts, with the wadding (or fleece) and backing. The pouch becomes soft and comfy.

making zipper pouch

It was already late evening when we were choosing and cutting the lining and making the pocket – with Moomins!

pouch project

Little things and details make difference. Some jewelry supplies are great for sewing and handy tools help to add them.

wonder clips

Final step is to sew the binding by hand. Leather cord to pull the zipper and our pouch is ready!

Sometimes it can be boring to be a quilter-puppy. I wonder when shall we use that GO! baby? We made some birdies and bubble ages ago … can’t even remeber what is the third … now I can’t remeber how you call those ‘plates’ you put there to cut the fabric … oh, so much to remember …  I think we have also diamonds. I think also that Teje should crochet a hat with that yarn because they say it’s going to snow and she’s going to feel cold when we go for a walk.

wonky 8 point star

We have been really busy today; so many things to do and prepare. Nero will tell you about that soon!

So with our Big Star Pouch we shall enter the “8 is Great” challenge, hosted by Kim Lapacek at ‘Persimon Dreams’. Here you find the main information for the Project Quilting.

Pigs and Pouches

Hello! I hope you are fine and creating something with your favourite fabrics like me!

Paint brush Pouch

‘Paint’ fabric collection is one of my most favourite! It has beautiful colours and the prints are so fun! ‘Fluffy Sheep Quilting’ has still few pieces.

I picked some other favourite items for my photos: my grandfather’s small notebook and paint brush (from my sister when she lived in Japan). Any idea what it says here …

Now I can’t say which pouch is my favourite … first it was this with the pigs! I love little pigs …

pouch with pigs

… and once I met two pig moms on my way …

Looks like they were coming or going to the beach which is down on the road …

Kalathas Chania

When I chosed the backing for the pigs, that became my favourite!

hexagon pouch

There is two wip’s in my hexagon project box. One with lots of finished hexy flowers, many of them already connected. And one which I began in summer and hope finish soon.

paper piecing hexagons

With this piece I shall stay in my first plan (I think). All these hexagons are now sewn, but I’m not quite sure if I need to add one or two lines. Thinking about what colours they should be, purple comes to my mind.

paper pieced hexagons

But back to pouches. Third pouch is made with stamps. I really like this blue fabric! Too bad we don’t write anymore letters, send postcards and even nice stamps start to be rear.

stamp pouch

All the pouches has lining, made with shirt fabric I bought last year from Finland. Soon I shall send you again ‘postcards’ from Finland!

zipper pouches

One of the best part is to pick and match the fabrics!

zipper pouch project

Dark fabric is Essex linen, the same I used for the Star pouches. I’m looking for to get new Essex linen soon, in several colours!

These pouches are now on the self in “Nero’s Post” etsy shop.

PS. ‘Paris’ is here!

Star Zipper Pouches

Hi dear friends! Colourful scraps make most fun stars! Bright Kona solids framed with white cotton and dark Essex linen = Stars pop out!

big star pouch

On the other side there is improvised log gabin.

big zipper pouch

This is a big pouch and perfect to be a project bag, travelling pouch etc.

When you make something fun it’s hard to stay in one. Here the centre is more simple. If you like to see how I made the star for the first pouch, click HERE.

Wow, what a star!

star quilt block

I quilted some lines by machine and then stitched colours on the patchwork centres.

Zipper has leather cord and beads. For the end of the zipper I used hexagons.

star pouch

This second star pouch is medium size. Again good for knitting and sewing projects or makeups.

Lining has stripes and the pouch has binding.

Medium size pouch is in my etsy shop. Big pouch flew already to new home.

Lately I have made many bags and pouches and I’m busy to finish some custom orders, because our special guest, ‘Paris’ will be soon here! Then it’s all day playing!

I want to thank you for nominating and voting my ‘After the Storm’ quilt! I’m so happy and honoured to have this quilt in 20 viewer’s choise quilts at ‘Blogger’s Quilt Festival’! Voting is now over and you can see all the winners here.

Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments!

Hanna’s Post: Anna pouch

Vof vof dear friends! It’s me Hanna! I’m happy to show you what we made one day!

Anna pouch

This is ‘Anna’ pouch. Doesn’t that sound sweet! This pouch was in my mind many days and only the thought of holding this little, double pouch in my paws, felt so sweet

I fell asleep thinking how perfect my new fabrics from Jessica would be for this sweet pouch. Remember I won these lovely fabrics from ‘Quilty Habit’. Thanks again Jessica!

I was dreaming about little pouch named ‘Anna’… almost like Hanna, me …

And then one day we made it!

I asked my little dog friend to help me with the photos.

This pouch is so fun because it’s double fun! Super for the little special things.

double pouch

I think my fabric choice was perfect! For the lining I picked light turquoise with circles (one of my favourite finds from last trip in Finland). For the binding I chose tiny gingham in dark blue.

zipper pouch

I could put in my pouch desserts sticks and coocies … but I won’t … look how excited Nero was … wow, those were delicious goodies …

Nero and Hanna

I think this pouch is good for Teje’s bag because she has phone cover just in same colours …

Now I’m sure you want to make your very own ‘Anna’ pouch! I made this with Svetlana’s pattern. This pattern is very good, easy to follow and the pouch is easy to make. Except patterns, Svetlana from ‘s.o.t.a.k. handmade’ has made also beautiful kits for pouches!

Anna pouch

Now it’s time for my afternoon walk and then I have to prepare some things for our quilt guild’s Sunday meeting.

Thank you for reading my post and thank you for your lovely comments!
